Wherever this week may be in the interconnected chaos of my consciousness, I came back from my holidays. It was turbulent, emotional and active, but I couldn’t wait to get back here and just write my reviews and weekly thoughts into the ether.
One of my favourite review to write at the moment is How I Killed The Universal Man** by Thomas Kendall.
Absolutely loved his other book The Autodidacts, but this one put his work on a whole other level. It’s a science-fiction meeting with a little bit of Fight Club and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas with Black Mirror and even gore, of the Substance-type. I had to start a whole new notebook just to keep track of my thoughts and feelings while I try to process what I have just read.
If you are curious about the plot have a look at the official publisher’s site here.
I’m absolutely thrilled to write a review about his novel, and a huge thanks for reaching out to me and even going as far as to post a physical copy.
Omniviolence

Also, an amazing novel sent by Gareth Worthington, from whom I have read and reviewed the novel: Dark Dweller. Which I’m a huge fan of. He was also kind enough to send me the colourful, hardcover art version of Dark Dweller, which was absolutely mind blowing and deserves to be on display on any bookshelf.
This time, the novel I’m going to deep dive in is called Omniviolence** and is co-written with Stu Jones, who has written The Zone: A Cyberpunk Saga** or The Slavers** among many other novels.
Omniviolence supposed to shake things up and came with a trigger warning by Gareth Worthington. I highly appreciate the gesture, and also makes me very excited to start the novel. Seems like it’s going to be a perfect reading companion after How I Killed The Universal Man. Check out the synopsis at the official publisher of the novel, here.
So great novels ahead, starting 2025 with hardcore science-fiction, futuristic Orwell-like stories. I just hope that this doesn’t sweep into our reality, but I have to admit I think it already did.
The Kings Are Still Crashing
I’m progressing with the second volume of George R. R. Martin’s saga A Song of Ice and Fire*, A Clash of Kings* I’m roughly on page 352 of 873, so there is still more to go but I absolutely love it. Pretty much has the same reading experience as Game of Thrones*, and the lengths of the chapters are roughly the same. Maybe a tiny bit longer but definitely digestible at one sitting even if you are not someone who reads hundreds of books a year. I’m definitely not one of the sprinter readers, I used to be in my teenage and child years but not anymore.
I’m pretty sure if you are keeping with the information bites regarding The Winds of Winter, you probably heard by now that he might never ever finish it. So I’m going to read this series with a mindset that ‘whatever happens, happens’. I’m already thankful as a reader to being able to be introduced to this diverse and harsh world full of intricacies, so I don’t really feel the need to be demanding. I think writing is art, and you can’t force it. I don’t think you can. You can build up a habit, a routine which definitely helps to channel more of your ideas and be more productive and efficient in your workflow, but definitely not force it. So I’m enjoying his books and I’m happy with that. Obviously, I wish for both The Winds of Winter and The Dream of Spring to become reality, since I mean just based on the titles it sounds amazing, but if these volumes won’t get finished then they won’t.
Next Reads: A Little Bit of This and a Little Bit of That…
My Next Reads apart from my Next Reads are going to be, or at least one is definitely going to be a non-fiction related to astronomy/physics. I need some food for my mind and I’m hopelessly obsessed with the series: For All Mankind. I have a lot to choose from from my backlog, but here are the titles I am curious about as of today. This may change in the future:
The End of Everything by Katie Mack*
What Stars Are Made Of by Donovan Moore**
It’s not easy to choose, and I still have more on my shelves. I’m also planning to keep going with the Ice and Fire saga. Stick to the end. Same with the Expanse series* in the sci-fi, noir genre. But there are going to be many stand alone’s. Even if I don’t have time to read everything, I will definitely show them here. Maybe someone will pick it up. And another book will find its new home. It’s a win-win.
As usual I’m going to paste my affiliate bookshop with bookshop.org here*. I am curating a few collections and changing these lists pretty often, so it might be worth it to hop in sometimes. If you don’t want to support my little virtual bookshop, there are still plenty of other small businesses out there who deserve some love.
