Weekly Thoughts #5 Everyone!

Here we are, in October’s first week. It’s a busier month than I thought. Spooky reading is on with full power. I do have a few things to say about my current reads, so hang on. As far as everything else, right now I’m trying to find the ultimate blueberry muffin recipe. So far, I’m not convinced. They didn’t turn out bad but not good enough. If you know what I mean. I’m also listening to a podcast called Uncanny by Danny Robbins. I kinda stumped on it by happenstance and I’m a little bit hooked, not going to lie. I love how the actual people are involved in the storytelling as well. I enjoy it a lot. Also as usual I love to watch Mr.Ballen’s stories on youtube, his stuff is just on another level. I can’t watch a lot at once because I just get too scared, but it’s really fun if you are not that sensitive to spooky stories. He also published his first book: Mr Ballen Presents: Strange, Dark & Mysterious: The Graphic Stories*   it looks awesome.

Space Noir & Food for the Mind

I have uploaded the “in-depth” review (both spoiler and spoiler-free content) on James S. A. Corey The Leviathan Wakes*, the first volume of their epic noir space opera saga, The Expanse. If you are interested you can read it here. It was awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to start reading science-fiction, also to anyone who loves sci-fi and feels that hasn’t read anything good recently. It’s perfect for reading slumps.

I have also finished the Booker Prize, 2024, Shortlisted novel titled: Orbital by Samantha Harvey*, review on that will come soon, so keep your eyes peeled. I did like the book, but definitely not for anyone who is a plot and character-driven reader. Even though it is supposed to be a novel, it’s more like a bouquet of thoughts. Food for the philosophical mind. But more on that later.

Current Reads: Spookier than I thought

It’s October, so I have started to read the first hand picked spooky book for this month. It’s Stephen King’s ‘Salem’s Lot’* I’m roughly 300 pages in and I love it. It’s a slow-burner but oh boy, it really does burn after a while. Even when I thought: “Ahhh, it’s not scary at all.” I had the worst nightmares at night. So just be careful with reading scary stuff! I do love it though. There is no way I’m going to sit down watching horror movies alone, I’m too fragile for that, too scared, but a good book? Anytime.

I’m also still marching on, with a steady snail-pace with Kitchen* by Banana Yoshimoto in Japanese. It does go faster a little bit now, especially if I drill on kanjis before a reading session. Wanikani is awesome for that. Check it out, if you haven’t heard about it before.

Next Reads: Still Spooky October

I have a busy schedule this weekend, so I’m not sure I can upload my next in-depth review this Friday, but we will see. Next up I’m planning to read This Thing Between Us** by Gus Moreno. It sounds very creepy and weird at the same time, so I’m definitely intrigued. You can find all the books I have mentioned as usual as a curated bookshop.org list. The ones that didn’t made the list, are the ones that are not available there, but as always I try to put links for everything. I just like the option of supporting indie bookshops first.

If you like my work please consider supporting my page by either buying me a cup of coffee or contributing towards a book on my wishlist or just using my affiliate links to buy the books recommended by me. It would mean a tremendous lot because this way I can make sure that I can keep my website safe, up and running. I am posting new reviews every weekend.
